Half
Day Tour:
This tour is ideal for a day or a half day in the country
about an hour from Cape Town. We are situated in the Elgin
Grabouw area, half way to Hermanus, so if you are en route
to whale watching why not stop off and explore this most
beautiful area.
On arrival at Nature House, Elgin Grabouw Country Club we pack drinks, snacks, knapsacks,
and any luggage. After an introduction and briefing with
the guide, we set off in our canopy covered, open 4x4 rangers.
They are comfortable, safe, child and senior citizen friendly
vehicles.
We make our way through the scenic old wagon route area
called the Gantouw pass. The route explores the area which
was first ascended by traders two hundred years before the
modern Pass, (Sir Lowry’s), was built.
In and around this area there are interesting Geophytes
to be identified growing amongst the nutrient poor decomposed
sandstones/quartzite’s. We travel along the foothills
to Bys-a-pad, the foot of Hanse kop, which is an unusual
and prolific area for a multitude of Restio, Ericaceae, Bruniaceae
and many rare fynbos families.
Generally this area has many plants that are flowering in
most months. The fresh mountain air and breathtaking scenery
are but a few pleasures that make this tour so popular.
Day Tour:
This travels to the mountain interior with short walks to
spectacular plant areas and waterfalls. This offers the opportunity
to take a look at the bird life and fauna, and includes snacks
en route, a smart picnic lunch and drinks.
