The
Botanical Tour:
The Green mountain eco route is a spectacular mountain fauna and flora biome
with many Red data plants and enormous diversity. This pristine area lies within
the Kogelberg biosphere region and forms part of the rarely visited Groenland
Mountain range. (Most of the area is restricted to public vehicles). Cape Nature
and Nature Discovery Tours are providing nature lovers with a rare opportunity
to visit this amazing habitat.
The trail entrance is adjacent to The Hottentots Holland
nature conservation camp in Grabouw. The jeep track ascends
the green mountain to a communication mast at 1050 m with
the most awesome views of the Elgin valley and well beyond.
On the northern side the Theewaters Kloof dam and vyeboom
area are clearly visible as we climb.
You are in for a special treat! For this day tour is a must
if you enjoy the outdoor experience. Nature Discovery leaves
the farm with an accompanying guide and we head for a waterfall
and rock pools for breakfast. We travel through mountain
tracks and forest canopy reaching the green mountain entrance
above Vyeboom.
Stopping en route for snacks and refreshments we attempt
to identify many species of plants, 1690 in the biosphere
region. We reach the mountain top, enjoy the picnic lunch
and spectacular views, and return back to the farm at about
16h00/17h 00. There are overnight options so please ask if
this is something that you are interested in!
With eighty-seven red data plant species (a highly-threatened
vegetation type), the Green Mountain Eco Route is a prime
destination for botanical tours. Our visitors are overwhelmed
at the sights of this rarely visited mountain. The vehicles
we travel in are comfortable, all round vision open 4x4 rangers
traveling slowly, stopping at interesting sites and walking
to others for the photographic enthusiast.
This trail is by far the most popular route and we would
love to share it with you.
