How
it Works - EXO² Heated Clothing
- No internal wires !
|

The EXO² StormRider heated vest has
an innovative and unique climate control system that has
been developed to satisfy the needs of professional motorcyclists.
The StormRider is designed to provide you with warmth where
and when you need it, whatever the weather.
The technology centres around a core unique polymer based
element that heats up when low voltage is passed through
it and is powered by either rechargeable batteries, a mains
power adaptor or from the accessory socket of a car or motorcycle.
By regulating the voltage applied the heating element can
be made to heat up to a pre-defined level to create a uniform
area of heat with no hot spots. Uniform distribution and
dissipation of heat allows the heating element to be located
in close proximity of the area to be heated, thus maximising
heating and minimising heating response time.
Loading the polymer, at the heart of the heating component,
with conductive particles enhances its conductivity properties
and results in the element exhibiting a positive temperature
coefficient (PTC) when heated.
PTC is a characteristic many materials exhibit whereby resistance
increases with temperature in a non-linear fashion. Once
the material reaches the desired temperature, it self regulates.
An optional universal controller allows the user to select
temperature settings. |
|
| How
do the heating components work? |
| When the heating
element is at room ambient temperature, numerous conductive
"chains" exist within the material. When low voltage
is applied, current flows through the device, causing a rise
in heat. Once the heat rises, it creates a small expansion,
causing the conductive particles to move apart from each other.
The resistance of the device increases, the material conducts
less current and temperature is regulated. |

Key Features |
Virtually
indestructible. The rubber like structure of the heating element
makes it flexible enough to be configured into almost any
shape. Thus, making it easy to incorporate into most garments
and systems.
Unlike wire based systems, the heating component continues
to operate even if slit or torn without the possibility of
a short circuit.
Operating from a low voltage means that heating systems for
light users can be powered by rechargeable batteries. The
weight of these battery packs (no heavier than a modern mobile
phone) makes the heating system ideal for portable use.
• Intrinsically safe - due to the positive temperature
coefficient properties of the polymer.
• Inert. The polymer is resistant to most chemicals making
it ideal in extreme environments.
• High energy efficiency - over 98% conversion of electrical
energy into heat.
• Competitively priced. |

A
warm welcome to EXO² flexible, robust and safe
heat generating technologies:
Heated Clothing and Heated Motorcycle Clothing:
Welcome to 'FabRoc®'. This polymer
based material is lightweight, waterproof, windproof,
crushproof and stretchable. It is intrinsically safe
through being chemically inert and is fully CE compliant.
It serves also as an excellent format for latent heat
transfer in Polymers. |
|
Heat: The vest self-regulates to
a temperature of 55°C. The optional controller
allows you to precisely control the temperature of
your own micro-environment, improving comfort, freedom
and safety.
Battery Pack Option:
The StormRider vest, with lightweight battery pack
option, gives you ultimate flexibility, for up to
3 hours of warmth in the lower back area.
Wireless Hi-Performance Materials:
The heat panels are made of specially treated Fabroc
® conductive polymer. The outer garment layer
is made of AirXtream, which is stretchable windproof,
waterproof and breathable, ideal for a comfortable
fit.

Developed
by Keela, AirXtream is a revolutionary fabric that forms
the outer layer of the StormRider Bodywarmer and StormWalker
jacket vest with a specially developed 3-layer material
concept. The outer consists of a pique weave with a
durable water resistant treatment laminated onto a waterproof
hydrophilic membrane.
This in turn is laminated to the inner liner, which
has rapid moisture wicking properties, and has a high
percentage of stretch for added comfort while still
retaining its durability.
Its weatherproofing means it can be used longer on its
own when the weather turns bad and acts as the perfect
mid layer in colder conditions, reducing bulk while
still helping to retain insulation. |
